Karen Blixen
The renowned Danish author best known for Out of Africa, had a profound love for nature—especially flowers and birds, which often appeared in her writing as symbols of beauty, freedom, and transformation. Her home at Rungstedlund, now a museum, reflects this passion through its lush gardens and vibrant birdlife.
To Blixen, flowers were more than decoration—they were characters, symbols, and living poetry. Birds, with their fleeting grace and freedom, echoed the themes of longing and transformation that filled her stories. For her, nature was not separate from art—it was part of the same breath.
We at KOLEKTO are honored to have been invited to create a series of bespoke artworks for the museum shop. Each piece is hand-cut in wood and features motifs of birds, flowers, and a portrait of Karen Blixen herself. We’re truly delighted that our work is now part of a place that celebrates a woman we deeply admire.
